lift pilates owner & founder, pma®-cpt
Laura is the founder and owner of Lift Pilates & Post Rehab. Laura discovered her passion for Pilates as a form of mind-body exercise after her mother died in 1999. She opened Lift Pilates & Post Rehab in 2002, envisioning a space where women and men, Pilates teachers and their students alike, can develop a feeling of strength and acceptance of their bodies that will go with them from the Pilates studio into the wider world.
Laura has taught Pilates for over 18 years and has trained with nationally renowned instructors, including Andrea Maida, Sandy Shimoda, Elizabeth Larkham, and Sherri Betz. She has done workshops with Karen Frischmann and Moses Urbano, and Jay Grimes, and Ron Fletcher, both Pilates elders who worked directly under Joseph Pilates. Laura holds certifications from The Pilates Method Alliance®, Polestar Pilates® Stott Pilates®, Oov by Daniel Vladeta, and is a MELT certified Hand and Foot Instructor. She continues to keep up her training and loves sharing what she’s learned through workshops with her students and instructors at her studio.
Laura's passion is Joeseph Pilates original work, and she is currently studying to assess for the Pilates graduate program "The Work" with first generation master instructor Jay Grimes. Sometimes called "Classical Pilates" this is Pilates in its purest form: corrective exercise where all parts of the body are developed uniformly. Expect a vigorous, full-body workout tailored to your specific needs. Be prepared to sweat and have fun!
Laura recently equipped one side of the studio with all new Gratz Pilates apparatus—Gratz is the original manufacturer and still designs the original equipment used by Joseph Pilates. Lift Pilates is the first studio in the Sacramento area to offer Gratz equipment (reformer, Cadillac, high mat, ladder barrel, spine corrector, mini barrel, pedi-pole, high chair, foot corrector, toe corrector, and Wunda chair) and as Laura learns the original work, Classical Pilates. If you've done Pilates in another studio but never tried Gratz, you're in for a treat! It will change your body in ways you never imagined.
Through Pilates, Laura teaches her clients how to develop a balanced body, as flexible as it is strong. This approach leads to better posture, a graceful, flowing gait, and a body that moves with ease and in harmony with itself. Laura enjoys helping her students learn to move their bodies and to do things they never believed possible!
In her spare time, Laura can be found skiing, kayaking, swimming, and hiking with her husband, Steve, and their four children, ages 11 through 29. Laura also enjoys reading spy novels and spending time with her 6-year-old labradoodle, Ruby.
