pilates and movement teacher
Laura Cotler is the founder and owner of Lift Pilates & Post Rehab. Laura discovered her passion for Pilates as a form of mind-body exercise after her mother died in 1999. She opened Lift Pilates and Post Rehab in 2002, envisioning a space where women and men, Pilates teachers and their students alike, can develop a feeling of strength and acceptance of their own bodies that goes with them from the Pilates studio into the wider world.
Laura has trained with nationally renowned instructors, including Elizabeth Larkham, John Garey, PJ O’Clair, Sherri Betz, and Ron Fletcher, a Pilates elder who worked directly under Joseph Pilates. In addition to her Pilates training and certification from Polestar Pilates and STOTT PILATES®, Laura is also an Oov certified practitioner and a MELT Certified Hand and Foot Instructor. She continues to participate in training workshops each year to keep her at the top of her field, and she brings many movement modalities to her teaching style.
Through exercise, stretching, and movement, Laura teaches her clients how to develop a balanced body, as flexible as it is strong. This approach leads to better posture, a graceful, flowing gait, and a body that moves with ease and in harmony with itself.
Before discovering the healing power of movement, Laura suffered from severe lower back pain and poor proprioceptive awareness. Pilates helped restore Laura’s back and greatly improved her balance. Laura’s mission is to help others develop a fitness program for life, so they are able to continue exercising and feeling good about themselves as they age. She enjoys helping her students learn to move their bodies and to do things they never believed possible!
